10 December 1944 - 17 Feb 2017

COL Retired Daniel Coonan was born on Dec 10, 1944 and passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 in San Antonio Tx.

It is with great sadness and overwhelming gratitude for his life that we say farewell to Dan Coonan, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Dan was devoted to us, his friends, and the nation. We are blessed infinitely by his love, generosity, selflessness, and fierce loyalty. We will forever carry him in our hearts and cherish his memory.

For 26 years, he served in the United States Air Force with dedication and honor; and he was most proud to be a USAF Combat Controller and graduate of West Point, class of ’66. Like many soldiers, his was a soul gentled by his service as a warrior. We thought he was brilliant, full of good humor and playful wit.

He saw the world with uncommon clarity, from matters of the heart to the unfolding of history into the present – a true romantic yet a realist in the best senses. He understood war, he embodied love, he lived with quiet faith. He was a good man. We loved him dearly. To us, he was the best man...
