Memorial service for CCT NCOIC
| HOWARD (24 COMPW PA) - A memorial service was held April 27 at the Howard AFB Chapel for MSgt Johnny Hall who served as the noncommissioned officer in charge of the 1300th Military Airlift Squadron's Combat Control Team here. |
"Among us, Johnny was a leader. Throughout the years, he continually proved himself as a natural leader among others. His leadership was positive and enthusiastic, and was sensitive to the needs and feeling of his men." |
"He was capable - no task was too much for him. From a simple drop zone operation to conducting specialized joint operations or operating a large parachute meet, Johnny Hall was able. His seniors picked him to do the tough jobs." |
Hall, an 18-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, died of natural causes April 22 at the Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center at Lackland AFB, TX. He served as the NCOIC of the Combat Control Team here since April 1980.
During the memorial service, Col. David R. Hughes, base commander, praised Hall for his achievements in the Air Force. "MSgt Johnny Hall was a combat controller; a professional soldier," Hughes said. "He was the absolute best fighting man his country could offer. He was dedicated to the service of our country, regardless of the task for which called." |

"He was in the A Shau Valley with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam - with the besieged marines at Khe Sanh in March 1968 - in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, during the resupply and evacuation - with the Special Forces at Katum in Korea; Bangladesh and others. Johnny went where his country needed him and he distinguished himself in every instance. In combat, he was the epitome of the professional soldier. His superiors and subordinates relied upon him and he never let us down." Hughes said.
More than three years service was spent in Southeast Asia by the Sanger, Calif., native. |
| "In addition, Johnny was a friend," he continued. "To those of us that knew him well, his friendship was cherished entity. He had great capacity and talent for friendship, even to the pint that those close to him loved him. |

His awards and decorations included the Bronze Star with a "V" device and two Oak Leaf Clusters, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.
Hall is survived by his mother, father and a brother who all reside in the United States. |
