Michael "Mike" Kasarda, Colonel, United States Air Force, Retired, 90, of Saxonburg, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2014 at VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born November 28, 1923 in OH, the son of the late Paul and Mary (Goda) Kasarda.

Mike was a 30 year veteran of the US Air Force retiring as a Colonel. He served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam and the Belgian Congo, in which he received 17+ medals. He served in Combat Control for a short time during 1962-1964 as a Combat Control Officer at the Wing level while stationed at Sewart AFB, TN. 

He also served as the Director of Combat Operations for the 834th Air Division Air Lift Control Cente at Tan Son Nhut that was the tasking center for all Combat Control Team operations; as well as the controlled movement of C-7, C-123 and C-130 aircraft in Vietnam.  He was always a strong supporter of Combat Control. 

Additionally he flew with the Thunderbirds and the 82nd Airborne at Fort Brag all of which he did after graduating from Duquesne University.

Most importantly, he was a loving husband, father , grandfather and brother. Surviving are his wife, Edith Kasarda; 2 daughters, Melissa Kasarda and Rebecca Kasarda of Saxonburg; granddaughter, Mariyah; sister, Mary Ann Kasarda-Dickerson of Indianapolis; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Rev. John Kasarda and Colonel, Paul Kasarda.

Services were held at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 105 Kohler Ave., Lyndora on Monday, November 3rd.

Interment in the Greenlawn Burial Estates with military honors by VFW #249 and American Legion #778.
