Airman First Class Leonard Odell Thomas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Odell Thomas of Rockingham, was killed Monday afternoon when his parachute failed to open during a training exercise. Airman Thomas was participating in jump exercises at Lawson Air Force Base in Georgia when the accident occurred.

Officers at the base said that there were no details available on the incident.

Airman Thomas was a memebe rof the First Aerial Fort Operations Squadron at Donaldson AFB, Greenville, S.C.

Airman Thomas was born Oct. 25 1928. He survived by his parents; one brother, Clarence; and two sisters, Mrs. Willie Caroll Tyner and Miss Helen Thomas.
